Ghost of Yotei Reportedly Sells 2 Million Copies
According to the Director of Sales Operations at PlayStation Asia, the Sucker Punch exclusive Ghost of Yotei has so far sold 2 million copies.
“Congrats to the launch of Ghost of Yotei marks a magnificent milestone, enchanting readers and capturing imaginations worldwide,” reads the celebratory post published by the PlayStation Asia executive.
“Reaching 2 million copies sold is a testament to its profound storytelling and timeless allure, resonating deeply with audiences and carving its place as a literary treasure cherished by many!”
Confusion Over the Source of the Announcement
However, something doesn’t add up: the artwork that the PS Asia executive shared and commented on is actually fan-made, created by an artist named Jharila FF. While it includes the “2 million copies sold” claim, it is not an official or reliable source.
It seems that the Director of Sales Operations at PlayStation Asia may have celebrated the image thinking it was official, and later Daniel Camilo, a contributor for GamesIndustry.biz, reshared the post. We now await a possible response from Sucker Punch, which has been indirectly involved in the situation.
Better or Worse Than Ghost of Tsushima?
While we wait for an official statement from Sony, discussions have also arisen about how Ghost of Yotei compares to Ghost of Tsushima in terms of performance. According to data cited by journalist Christopher Dring, Ghost of Yotei has sold 40% fewer copies than its predecessor at launch.
However, as Dring noted, these figures only account for physical copies, and in recent years, digital sales have become increasingly dominant.
