Gigabyte B760 Gaming X AX DDR4 Motherboard Review

A Closer Look

The B760 Gaming X AX is a more affordable model, so it’s not as heavily armoured as the more expensive models, but hey, that was to be expected. However, even for a more affordable model, you’re actually still getting a decent array of features here. The grey digital design on the PCB looks tidy enough and matches up nicely with the grey detailing on the various heatsinks. It’s a fairly bland colour palette but it should blend into your system build easily enough once everything is installed around it.

The heatsinks look surprisingly robust here, with an 8+1+1 Phases Hybrid Digital VRM design, that uses 60A DrMOS, so I’m expecting good thermal performance from this configuration. I like that the left heatsink extends to form the cover for the rear I/O too, which looks really neat and tidy.

There’s a good quality SSD heatsink on the top M.2 slot, which features that M.2 EZ-Latch Plus design for a quick and easy installation. There are two more exposed M.2 mounts further down, no heatsinks here, but you could easily add your own if you really needed them. Also, the top PCIe slot is armoured, so it’ll easily cope with the weight of heavy modern GPUs. Plus there are two more PCIe 4.0 slots for additional add-on cards.

There is support for up to four DDR4 DIMMs, which can handle up to 5333 MHZ (OC)+.

Another nice feature is the SolidPin CPU power connector, it’s a more robust design vs the usual soldered-on plastic ones.

Finally, we have the rear I/O, which features a built-in cover, and offers up some pretty competent connectivity. There’s both the latest WiFi 6E and fast 2.5 GBs LAN included. There’s no rear Type-C, but there’s a header on the motherboard for front panel Type-C if your case supports it.
