Final Thoughts

I had a look at an awesome motherboard today, there can be no doubt about that. GIGABYTE created a masterpiece with the MD71-HB0 and it’s a motherboard I’m sure will become very popular among those who need such a setup.

With the dual LGA3647 sockets which support processors with up to 28 cores each, and 16 DDR4 DIMM slots, there’s a base for advanced data processing and calculation right there. All the crunched data has to be stored and accessed which won’t be a problem for the MD71-HB0 either. With 12 SATA3 ports plus 2 SATA3 DOM ports, dual U.2 32Gbps and dual M.2 32Gbps slots, you can connect tons of storage drives. If that still shouldn’t be enough, then there’s always the option of add-in controllers, adapters, and drives.

You probably won’t need any of the expansion slots for networking as it comes with dual Gigabit as well as dual 10 Gigabit via RJ45 ports. That should be enough for most situations, but if not, then you can just add some NICs. That leaves the six expansion slots, three x16 and three x8, open for AI GPUs or other fun stuff.

Besides all the awesome connection options, you also get a built-in IPMI remote management system. The ASPEED controller offers you a direct video output, dedicated management LAN, and serial RJ45 port on top of it.

That leaves little to be desired. An overall complete motherboard ready for your high-performance server build. Numbers don’t lie.

Pros

  • Dual-CPU and 16 DDR4 Sockets
  • Dual 10GbE and 1GbE Network
  • Dual M.2 and U.2 for high-speed storage
  • 12 SATA3 ports plus two DOM supporting SATA3
  • Remote Management and local display-out
  • 3x PCIe x16 and 3x PCIe x8 at Full-speed

Cons

  • Requires two CPUs for all features to be enabled

“GIGABYTE’s MD71-MB0 is a truly epic board. So many storage options and so many networking options which both can be expanded with even more to suit your needs. A great base for any system in need of a lot of processing power and direct storage.”
