Acoustic, Battery, Power & Thermal Performance

Acoustic Performance

During idle usage scenarios, the laptop is silent and upholds a fantastic experience when engaging in low-power tasks. Under load, the noise levels increase at a frantic pace in a similar vein to the Gigabyte Aero 14. Of course, the unit’s larger frame allows for a slightly quieter noise output which appears more acceptable but it’s not going to please those who are used to remarkably quiet PCs. Saying that, it’s a solid effort given the enclosed shell.

Battery Life

The Gigabyte P57X v6’s battery life is impressive and just fell short of breaking the 3-hour mark. Even though it’s some way off the Gigabyte Aero 14, this is to be expected due to the lower capacity battery. Also, notice the significant lead the product has over the MSI GE72VR 6RF Apache Pro. Please note, the balanced profile involves a whole host of applications and the battery life should be longer if you intend to write documents or work on spreadsheets.

Power Consumption

Here we can see the laptop is really efficient and hardly uses any power in idle states. Once stressed, the power draw isn’t overly high and showcases the fantastic power to performance ratio of modern components.

Thermal Performance

Despite utilising a hefty cooling solution, the CPU throttles back from 3.5GHz to 3.2-3.4GHz. The highest point equates to a downclock of 17% and this is fairly common amongst most gaming laptops. Most importantly, the i7-6700HQ’s drop is less substantial than I’ve seen on certain products and the thermal dissipation is certainly more effective. In an ideal world, I’d prefer the load temperature to hit around 90C at 3.5GHz but this just wasn’t possible. On a more positive note, the graphics card remained well within its thermal limits and didn’t overheat.
