Introduction

Gigabyte P57X v6

Gigabyte has established themselves as one of the pioneers in the gaming laptop sector and released a fantastic repertoire of successful products. Of course, there’s fierce competition from the likes of MSI, ASUS and other key players which make it essential to try and hone the best possible package. So far, I’ve been impressed with Gigabyte’s offerings and believe they’ve taken the feedback on board to formulate a plethora of premium designs. In particular, the Aero 14 was a huge step forward in the right direction and the best ultrabook I’ve encountered which can run modern games relatively efficiently.

The company’s latest creation is the P57X v6 which employs a 17.3-inch IPS screen with an anti-glare coating, 16GB DDR4 2133MHz RAM, and the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070. Not only that, the product utilises an Intel Core i7-6700HQ processor, weighs a respectable 3KG and supports USB 3.1 Type-C. Evidently, this is a marvellous specification and I’m expecting the system to provide a stellar gaming experience. Priced at £1699.97, the laptop is a significant investment but this is to be expected given the powerful Pascal graphics solution. Even though it’s not the the most portable laptop Gigabyte has made, it’s suitable as a desktop replacement for home use.

Packaging and Accessories

The Gigabyte P57X v6 arrives in a rather large box which contains a luxurious snapshot of the product on a stealth black background. Additionally, the packaging provides an insight into the laptop’s colour scheme and has a brief description regarding its target market. Saying that, the language “audio festivity” is a little peculiar and probably stems from a poor translation. Please note, the opposite side isn’t pictured because it has my address on and isn’t really noteworthy.

Inside the package, we can see the laptop is firmly held in position with thick foam supports which provide excellent protection against damage during transit. Furthermore, the power adapter is kept in a separate compartment and should be easy to remove. Honestly, the internal packaging layout is superb and the thick foam padding ensures the laptop withstands any knocks along the way.

In terms of accessories, the laptop includes a user’s guide, warranty information, Windows 7 USB 3.0 flash installation instructions, PowerDVD 12, software/drivers disk, swappable HDD bay and a relatively large power adapter. The swappable bay is a wonderful idea which allows you to upgrade the internal storage without dismantling the laptop. Please note, the caddy supports 9.7mm/7.5mm drives and has a simple yet effective mounting system. I’m slightly confused why other manufacturers haven’t adopted a similar design because the swappable bay is convenient and removes the hassle of storage upgrades. Great job Gigabyte!

The power brick has an input rating of 100-240V~2.9A at 50-60Hz while the output figures are 19V, 10.5A, 200W. As you can see, the power brick is substantial and takes up quite a lot of space in a laptop bag. As a result, it’s not the ideal solution for those who commute on a daily basis and require a portable, lightweight device.
