The Gigabyte RTX 2060 SUPER Gaming OC is available now for around £460 in the UK and $467.93 in the US. The Gigabyte RTX 2060 SUPER Windforce OC is available for just £445.50 in the UK; it was out of stock in the US. So not a HUGE price difference, but each certainly has their merits. If you have the extra £20, get the faster one. However, the cheaper one does overclock well to closely match the more expensive model; albeit there’s no guarantee in being able to OC the same as us.
Both of the cards performed really well overall. They scored very much similar to the RTX 2070 in our Synthetic Benchmarks. Of course, both did very similarly to each other, but as you would expect, the Gaming OC just about had the legs on the Windforce OC. It’s only a small margin but certainly shows the extra £20 isn’t a wasted investment.
Both of the cards have competent coolers, delivering good temperatures and acoustics. However, the larger fans of the Windforce OC tend to run at lower RPM, albeit they’re dealing with a slightly less powerful card and thus need to cool less too. The Gaming OC uses more power, thus making more heat, and needs that extra fan to keep things in check. Albeit, even the Gaming OC is as cool and quiet as anything else really.
Overall, the Gaming OC is faster in pretty much everything. Albeit, it’s only a few FPS and sometimes even just 1 FPS different from the Windforce OC. I would struggle to tell them apart in a blind study. That being said, both are powerful enough to push well over 100 FPS at 1080p, and up to 60-90 FPS at 1440p, and I’m sure they’ll smash through 60 FPS at 4K if you’re not aiming for ultra graphics too.
For gamers with G-Sync, 144hz panels, or high-resolution panels, they seem to be perfectly suited to all. Sure, the 4K gamers may want something a bit more punchy, but hitting around 45 FPS at high at 4K is decent for a sub £500 card (or two). Setting a few things to “medium” for 4K would soon boost those FPS numbers anyway. Over the mighty Metro Exodus was rocking around 60 FPS at 1440p, the same as an RX 5700 and RTX 2070; not too shabby.
Of course, with Nvidia you get their full advanced feature sets. This includes DLSS and Ray Tracing, as well as Ansel, and much more. There’s not a massive number of games with support yet. However, that is steadily growing and for a mid-tier sub £500 entry point, the 2060 SUPER cards from Gigabyte are a strong brilliant starting point for enthusiast gamers who don’t want to drop £1K+ on the current flagships. Half the price, but clearly not half the performance.
