Gigabyte RTX 4090 Reportedly Already Available to Purchase in Hong Kong

While Nvidia formally announced the launch of its 40XX graphics cards last week, it should be noted that we’re still looking at just under two weeks before A) independent reviews can be published, and B) 4090 graphics cards officially go on sale with retailers. – Despite these seemingly rather pertinent facts, however, a report via Videocardz has found one source claiming that the Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4090 Gaming OC is already available to purchase in Hong Kong.

While we are currently at a point where review samples should be on their way to media partners (which we here at eTeknix will neither confirm nor deny receipt of), the bottom line is that no Nvidia 4090 graphics cards should be in hands of general consumers just yet. According to the source, however, they were able to place their order with an undisclosed retailer in Hong Kong just before the weekend and have since (and surprisingly promptly) received their Gigabyte 4090 Gaming OC GPU.

Now, you might argue that such a claim could easily be made up. The thing is though, they’ve provided a lot of images to (at least on the surface of things) back this up!

So, with a 4090 now officially somewhat out in the wild, we can surely expect to see some independent benchmarking scores from them in the very near future, right? Well, probably not. You see, while they’ve managed to somehow purchase a 4090, the official drivers for the graphics card are yet to be publically released.

Although expected to land at some point within the next 7-10 days (as part of Nvidia’s latest driver update), the bottom line is that without the drivers, all they have here is a very nice (and probably very expensive) paperweight. – And just in case it needed to be said, the days of getting drivers on a CD-ROM within GPU purchase packaging are long gone!

What Do We Think?

It is, of course, entirely possible that this was just an error by the retailer. Many are accepting pre-orders for the 4090 graphics card and this one might’ve just been accidentally shipped ahead of schedule. – With that being said though, this is at least somewhat positive news or at least an indication that stock levels are decent. Particularly if AIB partners already have their initial stock drops if not in place, then seemingly very shortly set for arrival.

Admittedly though, consumers aren’t likely to be too eager for the 4090. I mean, if Nvidia’s own Founders Edition model will cost $1,599, then I dread to think how expensive custom models like this from Gigabyte will be!
