So far for the week after launch, most AiB partners have only teased the Founders Edition of Nvidia’s latest GTX 1080. That is the relatively boring reference model with stock clocks and cooler. Starting today, we have our first hint from Gigabyte about their custom GTX 1080 plans as well as an announcement for their GTX 1080 reference model. If all goes according to plan, Gigabyte will release their GTX 1080 XTREME GAMING come June.
With this reveal, it confirms previous reports that custom variants of the GTX 1080 from AiB partners would follow shortly in June. Given that the custom variants are supposed to be cheaper than the reference models, the sooner they come the better. The blacked out image from Gigabyte doesn’t reveal much but it is a picture-perfect match for the GTX 980 Ti XTREME. This suggests a similar design for the GTX 1080 or Gigabyte is just recycling images.
During Computex, most of the AiB partners will probably take the chance to show off their custom models. Expect more leaks and reveals until May 31st but once Computex rolls around, we can expect a tsunami of reveals as everyone starts pulling off the wraps. Given the low TDP for the GTX 1080, we may see some quite interesting designs.
