GOG Galaxy Focusing on Native Linux Support

It’s been an interesting time for Good Old Games (GOG), as they’ve been taken over by one of their original co-founders. The buyout led some to worry that things would simply take a turn for the worse at GOG, as sales often lead to drastic changes in many businesses. However, it seems they’re still committed to what has made them a great and unique element in the PC gaming landscape.
GOG
With their focus on classic games and a total focus on DRM-free entertainment, GOG is now going to focus heavily on Linux support for GOG Galaxy. This is great news for me, as I have been on Linux Mint for a few months now and am loving it. With the growing number of Steam Deck owners, Steam PC, and the steady migration of PC gamers thanks to the incredible efforts of Microsoft to take a huge dump on their own OS, GOG Galaxy on Linux is looking like a prime market.

The news of this comes from a new job listing at GOG, as they’re looking for a senior C++ software engineer. It says that this role will “help shape GOG GALAXY’s architecture, tooling, and development standards with Linux in mind from day one.” as well as improving their softwares hardware support.
Linux
I’m using Heroic launcher, as well as Lutris, Steam and a few others to get my games on Linux, but or simply logining into my GOG account via their website and download the game installers directly. So, it’s not like I can’t play their games. However, GOG Galaxy has proven to be a great gaming hub on Windows, so I’d be eager to try it out again on Linux in the near future.
What do you think? Are you a GOG fan and/or a Linux user? I think the more heads that turn towards Linux, the better, and perhaps we’ll see other storefronts, publishers, and customers heading that way soon.
