Google are set to pay out $12.5 (£7.7) billion for the acquisition of Motorola’s mobile division Motorola Mobility which covers their smart-phones and tablets, Motorola will remain a licensee of Android which will remain an open platform, Motorola Mobility will be run as a separate business.
The transaction subject of course to the agreement of regularity approval in the U.S and E.U as well as agreement from current stockholders of Mobility, the transaction is hoped to be completed by late 2011 to early 2012 (which is also dependant on the Mayan calender being wrong).

Its hoped that the deal will further the chances of being a significant ipad and iphone rival.
