Google Glass Division on Hiring Spree

Google has been heavily hiring hardware engineers lately. The search giant has posted about 20 job listings between January and May for the Google Glass division. They have posted more than 16 job listing of different positions in Glass division from last month. The job listing ranges from an audio hardware manager, Hardware Automation Engineer, Human Factors Designer, UX director, kernel developers, to an RF systems engineer.

It seems that they are undergoing a big change. Google Glass may not be just a techy eyeglasses anymore. Google tags Glass division as a team working on “smart eyewear and other related products.” After Google stopped selling Google Glass back in January when it was priced at $1500 for explorer edition, they have made it clear that they are working on a new version of Glass for consumers.

“It is a big and very fundamental platform for Google,” Schmidt said. “We ended the Explorer program and the press conflated this into us canceling the whole project, which isn’t true. Google is about taking risks and there’s nothing about adjusting Glass that suggests we’re ending it.”

In my opinion, as Glass division is undergoing such a noticeable change, we are not going to see same Google Glass whenever it is made available. It has a more challenges than it had back in 2013 when it was unveiled. What are your thoughts on this change?
