Google PixelBook Laptop Now Available Starting at £999

Some details about the Google PixelBook leaked out a few weeks ago, but it is now officially available. The laptop is essentially a high-end Chromebook, but it is much more than the typical student-oriented low-cost notebook solutions familiar to all. The Pixelbook is actually a very sleek, high-end hybrid laptop that is ideal for professionals. With a starting price of £999, it obviously intends to take on the Apple MacBook and Microsoft’s Surface Pro. Unlike the Surface Pro which is a tablet first however, the PixelBook is undoubtedly a laptop with closer roots to a Macbook.

Google PixelBook Features

Underneath the aluminium shell, the PixelBook sports the a 7th generation Intel Core processor. Users can choose between an i5 or an i7 model, with 8GB or 16GB of RAM. Storage support includes 128GB, 256GB and 512GB, with faster NVMe options as well.

The screen uses a 12.3″ LCD 2400×1600 (235 ppi) panel mounted on 360-degree hinges. This means users can flip it all the way back and use it as a tablet. The PixelBook also has a 720p 60fps webcam which uses four microphones for noise-cancelling purposes. This ensures that video chats picked up by the webcam come through clearly.

The entire unit only measures 290.4 x 220.8 x 10.3mm and weighs 1.1kg. It has two USB-C ports on each side which can be used for charging, for additional storage or as an external display connector port.

At its core however, the PixelBook is still a Chromebook with high-end hardware, running on Chrome OS.

Pricing and Availability

The Chrome PixelBook starts at £999 for the Core i5, 8GB RAM, 128GB storage model. The Core i7 with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of NVMe storage comes in at £1699. Each package includes a USB-C cable, quick-start guide and power adapter. The PixelBook pen costs extra at £99.
