It’s true that Brexit is still a controversial issue, but no matter what side of the argument you’re on, you have to admit that it caused a very big stir when it comes to major companies, their pricing and their plans for the future. While the likes of Apple and HTC decided to increase the price of their UK goods this year, it looks like Google is looking to alleviate some tensions by laying the groundwork for an incredibly expensive new London headquarters. The project will reportedly cost $1 billion, and it will help create about 3000 jobs by 2020. The building itself would have ten storeys, and it would boast 650,000 square feet of floor space right next to King’s Cross.

Currently, the company has about 4,000 employees in the UK, but this figure is expected to increase to about 7000 by the decade’s end. The project was first revealed about three years ago, but since the original layout envisioned by London-based architects AHMM was considered “too boring” by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, the whole thing was put on hold. The new design was put together by Thomas Heatherwick and Danish architects Bjarke Ingels Group, and it will definitely be something to write home about. Google’s CEO had a few words to say about this upcoming London headquarters:

“We see big opportunities here. This is a big commitment from us – we have some of the best talent in the world in the UK and to be able to build great products from here sets us up well for the long term.”
