GTA 6 Delayed Again, Rockstar Games Announces New Release Date for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S
Rockstar Games has announced another delay for GTA 6, disappointing millions of fans eager to explore Vice City and the state of Leonida.
The new (and hopefully final) release date for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S has been set for November 19, 2026 — nearly six months after the previous date (May 26) and about a year later than the original release window planned for fall 2025.
In what could now be called famous last words, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive (Rockstar Games’ parent company), stated last May: “I think historically when we set a specific date, generally speaking, we’ve been very good about reaching it.”
Those words haven’t aged too well.
Rockstar Explains the Reason for the Delay
Aware of players’ disappointment, Rockstar Games posted an official message on social media explaining that the extra months will allow the development team to polish the game to perfection. In other words, the wait will be longer than expected, but for a good reason — to ensure the experience lives up to the enormous expectations of fans.
“We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve,” reads the message from Rockstar Games.
“We want to thank you again for your patience and support,” Rockstar continued. “While the wait is a little longer, we are incredibly excited for players to experience the sprawling state of Leonida and a return to modern day Vice City.”
In related news, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick stated that AI cannot create a game like Grand Theft Auto VI because it lacks the genuine creativity and genius of human artists.
