GTA 6 Deserves to Cost $100, Says Former Saints Row Developer
The price of GTA 6 remains one of the biggest mysteries surrounding the release of what may be the most anticipated video game of all time. For months, rumors have suggested a minimum price of $100 for the standard edition, sparking widespread debate.
In a recent interview (thanks Insider-Gaming), Chris Stockman, former design director of Saints Row, commented on the topic, saying that Take-Two and Rockstar Games have every right to set the price they want for what could be the biggest game ever made.
The Price Debate
Stockman shared his thoughts in an interview with Esports Insider, responding to a question about the possible $100 price tag for GTA 6, which will likely be even higher for special editions — as is typical.
“They’re the only ones that can get away with it. I don’t think it’s a rising tide that floats all boats. I think that there’ll be a tremendous amount of backlash if everyone switched to $100. Not all games are created equal. I think GTA is the only one that can get away with it, and I hope they do. I really hope it’s $100. I think it deserves to be $100.”
According to Stockman, the sheer scale and quality of GTA 6 justify its higher cost. Indeed, there may not be another game with comparable ambition or production value.
Stockman also recalled that when Grand Theft Auto III launched in 2001, he was so impressed that he considered it “the future of games.” Five years later, he released Saints Row, which at the time was seen as one of the strongest competitors to GTA.
Based on industry estimates, GTA 6 could generate around $7 billion in revenue within the first two months of its release, currently expected in May 2026.
