GTA 6 “Recently Played” on PS5 and Xbox Sparks Confusion
In the past few hours, many posts have appeared on social media showing PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S profiles with Grand Theft Auto 6 listed among recently played games. However, things are not as they seem.
To be clear, no one has actually played the highly awaited Rockstar Games title, not even for a second. The appearance of GTA 6 in the recently played list on both PlayStation and Xbox is caused by a recently discovered glitch. Some users have used this trick to make it look like they have access to the game.
How the GTA 6 Glitch Works on Xbox
On Microsoft consoles, the method is quite simple. Users can remotely start the installation of GTA 6 through the Xbox smartphone app, just like they can with many upcoming titles. Only a few kilobytes are downloaded to the console.
When players try to launch the game, they receive an error message because the game is not actually available. However, the system still adds GTA 6 to the list of recently played titles, creating the illusion that the game has been launched.
On Sony’s platform, the situation is different. It is linked to the recent discovery of Grand Theft Auto 6’s ID in the PlayStation Store database, found by data miners.
Some users have reportedly used this ID in an improper way to force the system to add the game to their recently played list. Just like on Xbox, this does not mean anyone has real access to the game.
In short, there is a clear explanation behind this situation. Despite what some may believe, no one is already playing GTA 6 on console. It is simply a glitch that has been used to mislead others.
