GTA 6 Reportedly Set for Digital-Only Launch, Physical Copies to Follow Later
One of the most anticipated games of 2026 — and previously of 2025 — is GTA 6. The game has gone through several delays, pushing its release close to the end of this year, although some details have already surfaced through leaks. Precisely to prevent further leaks, Rockstar and Take-Two are reportedly planning a launch strategy focused entirely on digital distribution.
GTA 6 Will Be Available Only in Digital Format at Launch
According to rumors, GTA 6 will launch on November 19 as a digital-only release. While PC games are already almost entirely distributed digitally, GTA 6 is also expected to skip physical discs on consoles at launch.
A physical release requires shipping copies to stores ahead of time, a process that often leads to leaks. Releasing the game exclusively in digital format — on consoles and possibly on PC — would greatly reduce the risk of content being shared before the official release of such a highly anticipated title.
Sources from PPE also report that this digital-only launch will be temporary. Take-Two has confirmed that GTA 6 will eventually be available in physical format, but only after a delay long enough to prevent early leaks.
There is no confirmed date for when the physical disc will reach stores, but it is said that players who prefer a boxed version will not have to wait very long.
With the digital launch set for November 19, it would make sense for the physical edition to take advantage of the holiday shopping season. The time gap between the digital release and the physical version is expected to be short, potentially allowing Take-Two to release the disc version before Christmas.
In other news, high-ranking Russian officials and religious figures called for a ban on GTA 6 ahead of its release.
