GTA 6 to Boost PS5 and Xbox Series X|S Sales, Says Take-Two CEO

Given the current state of the video game industry, it’s hard to be overly confident, but the head of Take-Two, Strauss Zelnick, is probably one of the few who can afford to be. He has made a bold claim that GTA 6 will help boost the sales of PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, which are currently experiencing a decline.
Zelnick’s Confidence in GTA 6’s Impact
In an interview with IGN, published before Take-Two’s last financial meeting, Zelnick expressed confidence in the driving impact that the release of GTA 6 could have on the console market. This interview also confirmed the release window for GTA 6 and hinted at the possibility that games like GTA 6 could even land on the Nintendo Switch 2.
Regarding the current state of the console market, Zelnick agreed that there is growing anticipation for the next generation of consoles. However, he remains optimistic that hardware sales will pick up with the arrival of this blockbuster game.
Zelnick’s Confidence

Zelnick’s statement is not just based on wishful thinking; it’s rooted in historical data. He pointed out that whenever a major title like GTA enters the market, it has historically always driven console sales, referencing the success of GTA 5 as a prime example.
“I think that will happen this year,” said Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two. He added, “I don’t think tariffs are going to be our friend, but I think there will be a meaningful uptick in console sales in calendar 25 because of the release schedule, not just coming from us, but coming from others. So I’m not concerned about that [console sales falling].”
Indeed, many analysts agree with Zelnick’s view. The launch of GTA 6 is expected to be a major event in the gaming industry, one that will have a significant impact not only on the gaming sector but also on the entertainment industry as a whole.
