Earlier this month, Take-Two Interactive took down Grand Theft Auto V modding tool OpenIV following a cease-and-desist. As a result, angry fans flooded the GTA V Steam page with negative reviews. Yesterday, Rockstar Games – developer of the GTA franchise – revealed its only problem is with mods that interfere with online play. Thankfully, Rockstar, Take-Two, and the mod’s developer have reached a détente.
Developer Yuriy “Good-NDS” Krivoruchko reached an agreement with Take-Two and Rockstar to revive the popular mod. Now, not only is OpenIV back, but a new version of the tool is now available. Rock, Paper, Shotgun reports:
“Rockstar have said they’re in contact with [Krivoruchko], the tool has received an update, and a representative of Rockstar itself pointed us towards a fan forum celebrating its return:”
The purpose of OpenIV to modify single-player GTA games only, Krivoruchko insists. He does admit, though, that it is possible to use it to influence online play. Motherboard reports:
“Earlier this week Krivoruchko told Motherboard that he never designed OpenIV for this purpose. He said that he’s not interested in GTA Online at all. But he did concede that it is possible that some modders have used OpenIV to impact GTA Online. At Krivoruchko’s request, Motherboard is not detailing the methods he discussed so as not to cause more trouble in GTA Online.”
