GTA VI Delay to 2026 is a “Worthy Investment” Says Take-Two CEO
The development of Grand Theft Auto VI started in 2018, but according to Take-Two Interactive, the game truly began its serious development in 2020 after the success of Red Dead Redemption 2 and the beginning of the pandemic. This was confirmed by CEO Strauss Zelnick during a recent financial results presentation.
He noted that GTA VI has become “the most anticipated entertainment property of all time.” The game’s delay, now set for May 26, 2026, is described as a “worthy investment” to achieve Rockstar Games’ ambitious creative vision.
Why the Delay is Worth It for GTA VI
Zelnick stated during the presentation that GTA VI is a project unlike any other, with more ambition and complexity than any previous Rockstar game. “I believe affording Rockstar additional time for such a groundbreaking project is a worthy investment,” he said. As the game’s development nears completion, it has become clear that more time is needed to perfect certain aspects.
In the meantime, the second trailer for GTA VI, released just over a week ago, broke all records with over 475 million views on major social media platforms in just the first day. The trailer, captured entirely on PS5 hardware, shows gameplay and cinematic footage, introducing the two playable characters, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. Shortly after, Rockstar updated their official website with new information on the game’s plot and characters, along with several fresh images.
