The GTX 1080 Offers Incredible Efficiency

NVIDIA announced during their Pascal event the new flagship GTX 1080, a project costing several billion dollars. This is the world’s first mass production chip based on the FinFET 16nm process and utilises the GDDR5X memory format by Micron. On another note, Pascal is NVIDIA’s most efficient architecture to date with significant improvements in performance per watt.

NVIDIA have designed a really advanced switching power design between DC and AC to dramatically reduce the card’s TDP during demanding scenarios. As you can see, the mV rating has reduced from 209mV to 120mV peak-to-peak.
