Guerrilla Games Is Reportedly Developing a Second Multiplayer Horizon Game
Journalist Jason Schreier of Bloomberg has confirmed that there is another multiplayer game in the Horizon series in development by Guerrilla Games, which would join the mobile title announced earlier.
It’s not entirely new news, because this mysterious multiplayer game tied to the Horizon franchise has been floating around in rumour-circles for some time. It was often confused with the MMO that was announced this morning and is called Horizon Steel Frontiers, developed by NCSoft in collaboration with Sony Interactive Entertainment.
Now that the latter has been announced, Schreier provides further clarification: there is indeed another multiplayer Horizon game in development, and in this case directly by Guerrilla Games.
Development by the Original Team
In fact, Guerrilla Games had hinted in recent hours that other games in the series would be coming, including projects developed by the same team responsible for the franchise—though without specifying what they were.
Schreier’s message makes a direct reference to the type of game: it will be a multiplayer experience, which is not exactly the kind of genre Guerrilla has been known for in recent years, and that makes it interesting to watch.
“Just to clear up some confusion I’ve seen,” wrote the Bloomberg journalist, “the newly announced NCSoft Horizon MMO is different from the multiplayer Horizon game that’s in development at Guerrilla Games. That one is Guerrilla’s next big project.”
So, beyond the team’s own words there is the added clarification on the genre: the new Horizon game in development at Guerrilla, which should be the next big project for the team, will be a multiplayer title. It may be one of the projects under Sony’s well-known push toward live service games, announced years ago, which until now has brought about several cancellations and the failure of Concord; but clearly the Horizon multiplayer project is moving ahead.
