Hard Drive Vs SSD – The space inbetween

Kingston ssdNOW V100 128GBFirst up is one of Kingston’s more recent SSD releases, the SSDnow V100. The drive comes in at an attractive £140 for the 128GB version which is just over the enticing £1/GB mark. This shows that the drive is a very attractive option for those looking at spending not too much but getting plenty of storage.

The 128GB version we are testing today has advertised sequential read speeds of 250MB/s and sequential write speeds of 230MB/s. This puts it right in the centre of the market where speeds are concerned. The drive supports TRIM which will insure that it remains running at fast speeds even after months of usage. Kingston also offer peace of mind with an excellent 3 year warranty and 24/7 technical support.

Kingston have done a great job making this 2.5” SSD look attractive by giving it a gun-metal finish that will look great sat in any case. Their logo is also very shiny and reflective which adds to the aesthetic appeal. The name of the drive, capacity and serial number are all present on the label which covers the majority of the front of the drive.

The underneath of the drive continues the gun-metal look meaning that this drive can be mounted in any orientation and still look amazing.

The SATA connections are the standard affair for a 2.5” SSD. Kingston use a SATA II interface.
