The Nintendo Switch impresses with its portability, which is why many users might feel the need to personalize the console and its controllers. This worked just fine for the Xbox One or PlayStation 4, but it would appear that the Switch will not handle vinyl very well, at least according to a company named dbrand. It’s worth noting that this company specializes in creating customized covers for laptops, phones and consoles, and that after a series of tests conducted on a pre-release Switch and a retail model, they issued a series of warnings on Reddit and Twitter advising against using special skins.
The problem seems to be with the console’s coating, which isn’t really compatible with any kind of adhesive. Moreover, dbrand is now refunding any customers who ordered skins for their Switch consoles, and the official warning is that “both the JoyCons and the Console are not compatible with vinyl wraps or any adhesive-backed skin of any kind.” What’s weird is that Nintendo is actually selling its own special edition skin, so it will be interesting to see if that one will cause any problems. Below you can find the official warning issued by dbrand on Twitter. Have you considered customizing your Switch console, and if so, will you give up on those plans considering dbrand’s discoveries?
