When it comes to competitive games, you often feel a bit riled up when playing against other human people and sometimes that competitive (and somewhat violent) nature can slip out in words. Go looking to throw that violent nature at people and it quickly escalates, just like one player of Heroes of the Storm found when he decided to threaten Blizzard.
Stephen Cebula is from Sacramento, California, and decided that he wouldn’t stop at the standard online threats. The first threats to Blizzard were made online after he was silenced from in-game chat after making abusive messages against other players. The abusive messages ranged between racial slurs to threatening to kill players and their families.
Following the threats, Blizzard suspended Cebula’s ability to send messages in game. This is when Cebula’s messages got even more aggressive as one, in particular, was sent to blizzard stating:
“Careful blizzard… I live in California and your headquarters is here in California… You keep silencing me in Heroes of the Storm and I may or may not pay you a visit with an AK47 amongst some other ‘fun’ tools.”
Within twenty minutes he kept sending other messages which raised Blizzard’s awareness of the incidents. Cebula could be convicted with a penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. No cool
