Hideo Kojima May Take a Break From Game Development After OD and Physint to Work on a Movie
Hideo Kojima, with his Kojima Productions, has recently released Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. Behind the scenes, developers continue their work on updates and prepare for the development of OD and Physint, the company’s two upcoming IPs.
What’s Next for Kojima?
What comes after these projects? Although the two games seem to be far from completion, and it will likely take a few years before we need to think about what’s next, Kojima believes it’s important to have a plan. And it seems that this plan may not necessarily include more video games.
In an interview with Brut, translated by Genki, we learned that Kojima has expressed a desire to work on a movie once OD and Physint are completed.
Genki reports: “Hideo Kojima says that after making DS2, OD and PHYSINT he will take a look at the situation of Kojima Productions and if he is able to, he will go work on a film!”
It’s well known that Kojima is a huge fan of cinema, and there has been speculation for years about his interest in making a feature film, despite advice from figures like del Toro, who discouraged him from doing so.
It’s important to note that Kojima’s plan is conditional, depending on the completion of the two games mentioned. Given that it may take several years, the Japanese creator could change his mind multiple times during that period. Furthermore, much depends on the situation at Kojima Productions. It seems Kojima’s idea is to focus on something else if the team is solid, with ample financial resources and someone capable of leading a new project.
