Highguard Announces Server Shutdown After Failing to Build Stable Player Base
In a surprise move, Wildlight Entertainment has announced the upcoming shutdown of the online shooter Highguard. At this point, the game can be considered a complete failure. The servers will officially be turned off on March 12.
Highguard launched on January 26, 2026, just over a month ago. Although the game had strong numbers at the beginning, its player base quickly dropped.
In an official message posted on X, the studio said: “Today we’re sharing difficult news. We have made the decision to permanently shut down Highguard on March 12.”
A Promising Launch That Quickly Collapsed
The launch did not seem bad at first. According to the team, more than 2 million players entered the world of Highguard after release. Players shared feedback, created content, and many supported the project.
However, the situation changed rapidly. Many players left, and the game could no longer sustain itself. The team explained that despite their passion and hard work, they were not able to build a stable player base that could support the game in the long term.
The servers will remain online until March 12. The developers hope players will return one last time to play a few final matches before the shutdown.
Before closing the servers, the team will release one last update for the community. This update will include a new Warden, a new weapon, account level progression, and skill trees. Full patch notes are expected soon, with the update planned for release either later today or tomorrow morning.
The studio ended its message by thanking the community for playing, supporting the game, and being part of Highguard’s short history.
In related news, Highguard’s rapid failure is linked to leadership arrogance, as studio heads reportedly believed they had created the next Apex Legends.
