Horizon Zero Dawn Movie Gets a Release Window and Production Start Date
It seems that Sony is about to begin filming the Horizon Zero Dawn movie, as its release window has surfaced in official company documents prepared for the ongoing legal case with Tencent.
As previously reported, Sony accused Tencent of copying Horizon Zero Dawn in Light of Motiram, calling it a “slavish clone.” From this legal dispute, new information has surfaced about the film adaptation of the popular game, which appears to be moving forward steadily.
Production Set to Begin in 2026
The Horizon Zero Dawn movie was announced earlier — in 2022, there was talk of a TV series, but this time it’s confirmed to be a feature film. According to reports, production is set to start in 2026, with a planned release in 2027.
According to a legal document obtained by The Game Post, the head of PlayStation Productions, Asad Qizilbash, revealed that the movie already has a completed script and is close to entering full production.
Interestingly, Sony has not yet found a director for the project, which is a significant missing piece. However, most other elements seem to be ready for production to begin in 2026, the year when filming is expected to start.
The release is expected in 2027, and the central figure of the movie will, of course, be Aloy, described as a “key icon in the anticipated film.” Her role is expected to gain even more prominence as the release date approaches.
“We are in development for a film based on Horizon in partnership with Columbia Pictures,” said Qizilbash. “We already have a working script and are actively searching for a director, with the goal of shooting the picture in 2026 and releasing it in 2027. The live-action film follows the recent collaborations between Columbia Pictures and PlayStation Productions on the 2022 film Uncharted and the 2023 film Gran Turismo.”
