How to build a computer Part #1 – Choosing a processor

We wanted to make this article brief as we also produced a video of which you can see on the first page. The video delves a bit further into the actual buying decisions behind processors and how it’s your choice at the end of the day. No one is going to force you but may give some potential buying advice based off their own decisions.

One persons view on a product isn’t the best information to take as gospel and we suggest that you gather as much research as possible and don’t be afraid of asking questions on community forums much like ours where generally you will find friendly, helpful people who were at one point in time where you are and in the same situation so they are understanding.

If we could give you some simple steps to making the buying decision neccessary it would be as follows:

  • Check the specifications against your needs
  • Make a shortlist of what products are suitable to you
  • Check the prices to make sure it fits your budget
  • Ask as many questions as possible (don’t be afraid!)
  • If you don’t need the top spec six-core processors, why waste the money?
  • Research as much as possible
  • Check reviews for product comparisons and benchmarks

With all this in mind, you should be able to make some very educated buying choices but before you do, if you are planning on upgrading your current system, make sure your current components are supported with the processor, and if you’re reading this guide in the hope of building a whole system, then check back soon when we will be taking a look at Part #2 – Choosing a motherboard.
