There’s no shortage of great keyboards that are brilliant to work and game on. I’m happy to report that the HyperX Alloy Origins is up there with the best of them. However, I’m going to say something pretty bold here, I think their Red switches feel BETTER than Cherry MX ones. They’re so damn smooth to actuate it feels like they’ve been generously oiled up. It’s just a smooth and clean action that makes typing fast and accurately easier than ever.

They’re also surprisingly quiet for mechanical keys. Nothing sounds like it’s bottoming out either onto the chassis or the switch housing, making it one of the quietest mechanical keyboards I’ve ever tested; and I’ve tested hundreds.

So for work and gaming, it’s absolutely dialled in, the keyboard doesn’t miss a beat for hours in Elder Scrolls Online or just typing a few reviews in the office. So what about the red, green and blue elephant in the room? That’s right, it’s RGB time.

As you can see, this keyboard is pretty well lit up. Their idea to mount the LED light outside of the switch housing means that it throws a huge amount of light right into the keycap, as well as providing a fantastic edge lighting design. The lightly textured black surface of the aluminium diffuses the light, giving it a softer and more pastel look between the keys. However, even after being photographed, compressed, and compressed again, the colours are still absolutely stunning in my pictures here.

The brightness is about on par with Corsair, which is high praise, as their colours and brightness are brilliant too.

Plus, with the on-board controls, dialling in the effect you desire is just a few taps away. There is a brightness control here too, should things be a little too intense, most likely on an evening.

The reactive lighting is pretty cool too, albeit, it gets a bit much while writing a 2000+ word review.

Overall though, this is clearly some of the best lighting and colours out the right now though, just look at them!
