HyperX Introduces Fury RGB SSD at CES 2018

HyperX was at CES 2018 too and we naturally stopped by to see what they had to show. Among the new products the company brought along is the HyperX Fury RGB SSD. After all, RGB is ‘the thing’ these days. So why not on your storage drive?

HyperX Fury RGB SATA SSD

At the base, the Fury RGB is an SSD like any other in its category. It delivers a solid performance and a great upgrade for those who still use mechanical and slow HDDs. It can deliver up to 550MB/s when reading and 520MB/s when writing.

Capacity wise, we get the option of 240GB, 480GB, and 960GB. That should satisfy most people, 240GB for the budget oriented and 1TB for those who want it all at once.

The HyperX Fury RGB is built with 3D NAND which isn’t a big surprise these days. Most SSDs are. It enables the companies to offer large capacity drives at a relatively low price. A win-win situation for everyone.

The different thing here is the RGB feature. We’ve seen RGB on other drives, but they were pre-programmed cycles or setups. The HyperX Fury RGB takes a different approach as it is compatible with Aura Sync and RGB Fusion setups. That makes it easy to create a unified RGB setup to your liking.

The addition of such a lighting system requires another cable. That’s a given. We can’t send the RGB control signals through the SATA cable, sadly. But that’s okay and people with RGB setups are used to these extra cables.

Pricing and Availability

We do not know either of these things at the time of writing. However, it should be clear to everyone that there will be a small premium to pay for the RGB feature. There’s more hardware in the drive which needs to be paid. We’ll stay on it and keep you updated.
