Following its successful revival of DOOM, it seems that id Software is potentially setting its sights on a reboot of fellow first-person shooter Quake. While the move has not been officially announced, a number of job listings, posted by id Software, make specific mention of Quake, which may point to the game being granted a long-overdue resurrection.
The developer is looking for a Lead Programmer, Senior Physics & Simulation Programmer, Senior Lighting Artist, and an Art Supervisor to work at its studio North of Dallas, Texas.
The four job listings all begin:
“id Software is looking for a Lead Programmer/Senior Physics & Simulation Programmer/ Senior Lighting Artist/Art Supervisor to work as part of a development team on legendary id game properties like DOOM and QUAKE, developing custom tools and technology for the game industry’s most advanced engine technology.”
While the reference to Quake may mean nothing – merely a citation of one of the developer’s historic successes – the return of the property would be very much in keeping with the current cultural trend of rejuvenating classic titles, what with the aforementioned DOOM, 2009’s Wolfenstein – which soon birthed Wolfenstein: The New Order in 2014 and last year’s Wolfenstein: The Old Blood – and Night Drive Studios’ new sequel to System Shock, the spiritual predecessor of the BioShock franchise.
