Intel Arc B390 Matches Xbox Series S Performance in New Tests

Recent performance tests published by Digital Foundry show that Intel’s Arc B390 iGPU, found in high-end Panther Lake CPUs, delivers performance on par with an Xbox Series S.

This result comes from testing the demanding Remedy title Alan Wake 2, which is known for pushing both GPU power and efficiency.

In tests using a pre-production chip limited to just 30W, the Arc B390 iGPU, based on Intel’s Xe3 architecture, showed strong and stable results. On Xbox Series S, Alan Wake 2 runs at an internal resolution of 847p, upscaled to 1440p using FSR 2, with a stable 30 FPS target.

Intel’s solution not only maintained similar frame rates, but also delivered slightly better image quality. According to the analysis, Panther Lake managed to outperform the Microsoft console by a small margin of around 1.32 FPS, even while using graphics settings comparable to a PlayStation 5 performance mode.

This is especially notable given that Panther Lake is designed for thin laptops and handheld PCs, not for a home console with dedicated cooling and higher power limits.

These results place Intel’s Xe3 “Celestial” architecture as a serious challenger to AMD’s dominance in the handheld gaming market, which currently includes devices like the Steam Deck and ASUS ROG Ally. Power efficiency plays a key role here, and Panther Lake CPUs perform best in the 30W to 45W range.

While it is still too early to apply these findings to every game, the Alan Wake 2 benchmark sends a clear message. Intel finally has an integrated GPU capable of competing directly with AMD in modern gaming workloads.
