Intel Core i9-14900K User Reports Fourth CPU Failure Despite BIOS Update
A problem with the Intel Core i9-14900K makes the issue of degradation in Intel’s 13th and 14th generation processors clear.
A recent case shared on Reddit shows the seriousness of the issue. A user says that his fourth Intel Core i9-14900K processor has started to show clear signs of deterioration, despite having installed the BIOS update with the microcode designed to fix the voltage problems.
Intel Core i9-14900K Fails Again After Several Warranty Replacements
The affected user, who uses a system with an RTX 5090 graphics card and 64 GB of DDR5 RAM, had already gone through the warranty process (RMA) three times before. To prevent future damage to his new CPU, he installed the updated BIOS and set the configuration to Intel’s default settings, avoiding other profiles. However, the system once again showed the well-known Blue Screen of Death (BSOD with error code 0xC0000005), a sign of instability and progressive physical damage to the silicon.
The root of the problem is the high voltages at which these chips operate. Although Intel’s microcode patches are designed to limit these excessive power requests, in some cases the default BIOS settings can still push voltages too high unless manual changes are made, such as undervolting or reducing the clock speeds of the high-performance cores.
Because of all these failures, the user is considering leaving the current platform and moving to Intel’s new generation of Core Ultra processors.
It is important to keep in mind that BIOS updates cannot repair a processor if it has already suffered physical damage, so it is always better to have the latest BIOS update installed to avoid problems.
