Intel Could be Dropping the “i” From Its CPU Branding

Intel may be considering dropping their iconic “i” CPU branding and replacing it with a new moniker.

Intel Dropping the “i” Branding

A benchmark for the game Ashes of the Singularity has been spotted by Albert Thomas of boringtextreviews.com which revealed the possibility of intel dropping the iconic “i” moniker from it’s CPU branding. The benchmark for the game showed an Intel Core Ultra 5 1003H which as per the name featured an “ultra” branding rather than the “i” branding we know and recognise.

Why Would Intel Do This?

Of course this is only speculation based around a benchmark and Intel haven’t confirmed nor denied anything yet, but it would be an odd move for them to do so. The core I branding is instantly recogniseable in the tech space and a complete rebrand would definitely be confusing to some and based on the 1003H naming it is also possible Intel could be resetting with a 1st generation of “ultra” chips rather than continuing on from 14th gen. Some other speculation around this is that Intel are trying to distance themselves from Apple who also use the “i” branding.

Update

Bernard Fernandes Comms at Intel has confirmed on Twitter that the company is making “brand changes” with more details in the coming weeks.
