Intel Expands XeSS 3 with Full Compatibility for XeSS 2 Games
Intel has confirmed that its new XeSS 3 technology, featuring Multi-Frame Generation (MFG), will be fully compatible with all games that already use XeSS 2, without requiring developers to make any updates or changes.
Compatibility Between XeSS 3 and XeSS 2
This direct compatibility is a major step forward for AI-powered upscaling, ensuring that users can enjoy performance improvements right from day one.
The Multi-Frame Generation feature in XeSS 3 allows the GPU to generate several intermediate frames between the real ones. This can multiply visual performance by up to four times by producing three generated frames for each real one. The goal is to deliver a smoother and more stable gaming experience, especially in demanding titles, positioning Intel as a direct competitor to similar technologies from Nvidia and AMD.
One of the main advantages of XeSS 3 is that it won’t be limited to the newest GPUs. Intel plans to offer support for Arc Alchemist graphics cards and even some integrated GPUs from older generations. This greatly expands the number of users who can take advantage of the new technology.
This means that more than fifty games already compatible with XeSS 2 will automatically benefit from XeSS 3, with no need for special patches.
Additionally, the automatic implementation of MFG will make adoption easier for developers and will allow players to experience immediate improvements in frame rates and image smoothness provided by XeSS 3.
Although Intel hasn’t yet announced an official release date, XeSS 3 is expected to launch alongside the next generation of Panther Lake processors, which will feature Xe3 graphics cores.
