Intel Foundry Aims to Break Even by 2027 with Intel 14A Node

Intel is working on revamping its foundry business, Intel Foundry, by purchasing advanced machinery to manufacture semiconductors with the latest technologies. This is crucial for producing the new nodes, such as the Intel 14A, which Intel has announced. The company hopes that by the time this node is launched in 2027, it will have achieved financial balance, ending its ongoing economic challenges.

Intel Foundry Aims to Break Even by 2027 with Intel 14A Node

Intel has already made progress in manufacturing its own products using an advanced node like the 18A. This technology will be used in the upcoming Intel Panther Lake processors, expected to launch by the end of 2025 and be available in early 2026. It will also be used for the Intel Xeon Clearwater Forest processors, meant for servers. Intel plans to make this technology available to selected customers to demonstrate its performance and reliability.

At first, the adoption rate for external clients is expected to be low. Intel aims to prove the excellent performance of its products to attract more customers. While the Intel 14A may require a bigger initial investment due to machinery using EUV NA technology, its higher density and efficiency will help offset these costs. Furthermore, Intel will also generate revenue from its older 16nm and 12nm nodes, which will help balance out the large investments made in recent years. With these plans, Intel is confident that it can achieve a solid financial balance by 2027 and start making profits shortly after.
