Intel is way ahead of the CPU game when it comes to the high end performance, its Sandy Bridge processors are rumoured to be able to hold their own quite comfortably against the upcoming Bulldozers and so the introduction of 22nm early next year isn’t necessary just yet. As a result Intel seems to be planning delaying the introduction of 22nm Ivy Bridge until Q3 of 2012 instead of Q2 because it can save money by doing so and longer exploit the potential of the current 32nm Sandy Bridge which is still a fantastic CPU architecture.
For AMD this could be a good opportunity to try and play catch up whilst continuing to dominate the low end market with its value for money AM3 Athlon II range and its current FM1 APUs which are providing low end PCs with a new lease of life as the onboard graphics are being greatly improved. AMD vs Intel….the battle rages on.
