Intel Leak Hints Meteor Lake is on Target for a 50% Efficiency Increase on Raptor Lake!

Despite many rumours to the contrary, Intel recently confirmed that their 14th-gen Meteor Lake desktop processors were still on track for release at some point later this year. So, with this in mind, we should probably expect it to happen around October. – In terms of the launch schedule, we should note that similar to both Raptor Lake and Alder Lake, consumers should probably only anticipate their highest-end models to drop this year with more entry to mid-tier products being revealed later at CES 2024.

What about the processors themselves though? Well, following a report via TechPowerUp, a leak source is citing news (apparently from Intel) suggesting that their 14th-gen Meteor Lake processors are fully on track to meet their 50% efficiency increase target.

Intel Leak Suggests Meteor Lake is Meeting its Efficiency Target!

So, efficiency… Yes, admittedly, it might sound a little drab, but in all honesty, this is quite exciting stuff. Well, ok, interesting. – What does this actually mean though? Well, with their 50% efficiency target in place, the most basic way of approaching this is that Meteor Lake will potentially offer 50% better performance while offering the exact same power requirements that their current 13th-gen Raptor Lake models offer.

In other words, if this leak is proven accurate, Intel’s upcoming Meteor Lake platform could offer notably better levels of processing performance while potentially allowing for lower comparative power requirements. And, let’s face it, processors, and particularly high-end models, have become a little greedy in this regard over the last few generations.

With less power required, however, this also means less heat. And less heat can typically lead to the chipset being pushed further with higher and faster clock speeds. All in all, this is a very nice cycle to have as a CPU manufacturer.

More so, think of what this could potentially allow for laptops!

What Do We Think?

With all this being said, do we really think Meteor Lake will be 50% faster than Raptor Lake while requiring the exact same amount of power? – In a nutshell, probably not. Even if testing does find that this point is being overstated, however, we daresay that Intel will find an interesting marketing angle to make it accurate.

You know, in the same way that Nvidia claimed the 4070 Ti was ‘up to 3 times faster’ than the 3090 Ti. In 99% of instances, it’s not. If you can make that 1% happen though, then it’s not a lie, is it?…

With Meteor Lake moving to a new socket platform though, the only moderate downside for Intel fans is that LGA1700 will be on the way out, and similar to what’s happening with AMD right now, I daresay that Team Blue’s management is hoping the economy might take an upward turn before the end of the year otherwise they too might face an exceptionally sluggish start in consumers making the transition.
