Intel Might Produce Chips for Future iPhones, According to Reports

Apple

According to the latest rumors, Apple and Intel may be exploring a new partnership. Although TSMC remains Apple’s main partner for producing SoCs for iPhone, iPad, and Mac, Intel could take over the manufacturing of some future chips. These reports are not official and should be taken with caution until confirmed or denied.

Apple May Return to Intel for New Chips

Intel Might Produce Chips for Future iPhones, According to Reports

As mentioned earlier, recent leaks suggest that Intel could start supplying chips for Mac and iPad within a few years. This collaboration may also extend to iPhones—specifically the non-Pro models, starting in 2028.

The information comes from analyst Jeff Pu, who, along with his colleagues, predicts that Intel will reach a supply agreement with Apple. The A22 chip could be used in models like the iPhone 20 and iPhone 20e.

There are currently no details about the design responsibilities: Apple is expected to continue designing its chips, while Intel would handle the manufacturing, starting with a limited production share.

This agreement would allow Apple to diversify its supply chain while strengthening Intel’s position in the semiconductor market and its growth opportunities. Intel is also expected to produce M-series chips for Mac and iPad starting in 2027, using the 18A node technology, the first sub-2nm process available in North America.

As of now, these details remain unofficial, so they should be treated with caution.

A Strategic Collaboration for Both Companies

Entrusting chip production to Intel would mean Apple is no longer fully dependent on TSMC, which could help reduce supply delays and shortages.

If Intel manufactures chips for the more affordable models, Apple could also lower production costs for those devices. Meanwhile, Intel would strengthen its global presence and benefit from a steady stream of orders.
