Intel Moves 11th–14th Gen CPU Graphics Drivers to Legacy Support
Intel has announced that the integrated graphics drivers for its 11th, 12th, 13th, and 14th generation processors will no longer be part of the regular update cycle. Instead, they will be moved to a legacy support branch.
Updates for Tiger Lake, Alder Lake, and Raptor Lake
This means that architectures such as Tiger Lake, Alder Lake, and Raptor Lake will only receive critical fixes and security patches, with no new features or performance improvements.
The company has already released a final driver version marking this change, clearly stating that from now on, users of these generations should expect more limited support. Instead of frequent updates with graphical optimizations, the focus will be on maintaining system stability and security.
With this move, Intel separates the drivers of older generations from those dedicated to its newer GPUs, such as the Arc series and Core Ultra processors, which will continue to receive active attention. This reflects Intel’s strategy to prioritize Arc GPUs.
Users with 11th to 14th gen processors will still have minimum support to ensure proper functionality and security, but they should not expect performance improvements in games or the addition of new features. It is also likely that laptop and desktop manufacturers will stop releasing customized driver versions with extra functions.
In short, Intel is reorganizing its graphics development for the future, focusing its efforts more than ever on its Arc GPUs.
