Intel Sees “Sudden Inrush of Demand” for Raptor Lake, Will Keep CPUs Around for Years

Intel has made a decision regarding its Raptor Lake processors, which will remain a key part of its lineup for the next few years. This was confirmed by Robert Hallock, vice president and general manager of Intel’s enthusiast channel business.

Intel reportedly made this decision because of the increased demand for these processors and LGA 1700 motherboards.

With the high cost of moving to platforms based on DDR5, many users and system builders have chosen to build or upgrade their PCs while keeping their DDR4 memory. In this situation, 13th and 14th Gen processors such as the Core i5-14600K and Core i7-14700K have become strong options in terms of price and performance.

Intel Will Keep Raptor Lake CPUs Around for Years as Demand Surges

Hallock explained that this “sudden inrush of demand” took the company by surprise. Since silicon wafer planning and production are done many months in advance, the market faced a temporary supply problem where stock of several models dropped sharply and retail prices increased in stores around the world. However, Hallock said Intel’s priority is to stabilize the supply chain and bring prices back to normal as production is adjusted to meet market demand.

The industry is already reacting to this situation. Motherboard manufacturers such as Gigabyte have once again increased production of LGA 1700 models compatible with DDR4. Reports about future revisions of the architecture, such as the rumored “Raptor Lake Next,” are also gaining strength as a way to keep the platform alive.

In this way, Intel is showing that it is in no hurry to leave its 10 nm chips behind, giving users a cost-effective option for getting high performance in games and applications without having to pay the extra cost of the latest-generation memory.
