Intel Skylake-X Engineering Sample Pictured

While Intel has largely remained mum about the Broadwell-E replacement, some leaks have started to surface. Set to replace the current X99 platform, Skylake-X is set to arrive on the newly created X299 chipset. Said chipsets will also work with the new LGA 2066 socket. In a first, we’ve now gotten a glimpse of what may be a Skylake-X engineering sample chip being sampled to customers.

From the chip, we can glean a few key details. Labeled “QL2T”, the chip runs at 2.4 Ghz stock. While it may seem a tad low, it is an engineering sample after all. Real world  launch products will almost certainly have higher clocks. We also don’t know how many cores this chip features as that plays a major role in clock speeds. If it is a 10 core unit, the clock speeds for an ES unit is forgivable.

From previous reports, the new series is set to launch in the second half of 2017. As part of their enthusiast lineup, they will come around the same time as the new Intel Optane 3D XPoint storage products will arrive. Hopefully, we will be getting more details from Intel as we get closer to launch and after Kaby Lake arrives on the desktop.
