Intel to release four new LGA 1356 processors

Intel launched its LGA 1356 platform only last week. The LGA 1356 socket is adapted from the LGA 2011 and Sandy Bridge-E(P) 32nm platform. The E5-2400 lineup included 9 server processors and three embedded SKUs. However, it now turns out Intel have released four more new processors for this platform. The Xeon E5-2449L, E5-1410, and Pentium 1403 and 1407. The processors were not on Intel roadmap, and are probably produced for specific clients.

The Xeon E5-2449L has 8 cores and can process 16 threads at once. The processor comes with 20 MB L3 cache and has the lowest 50 Watt TDP in the Xeon E5-2400 series. To achieve this low power consumption, CPU’s base and Turbo frequencies were reduced to 1.4 GHz and 1.8 GHz. Similar to the rest of E5-2400 family, the Intel Xeon E5-2449L supports dual-processing.

The Xeon E5-1410 is a quad-core processor with 2.8 GHz clock speed and 10 MB L3 cache. On top of that, Hyper-Threading feature allows this chip to execute two threads per each core, and Turbo Boost technology can raise operating frequency up to 3.2 GHz. Pentium 1403 and 1407 have only 2 cores, 5 MB of level 3 cache, and no Hyper-Threading or Turbo Boost features. The Pentiums are clocked at 2.6 GHz and 2.8 GHz respectively. All three CPUs fit into 80 Watt power envelope, and, we believe, work only in single-socket configurations. Intel ARK database claims dual-processor support for all three chips, however that contradicts to our preliminary reports, and to 14xx processor numbers, where the first digit “1” is scalability. The CPUs are currently shipped in Dell workstations, including Dell PowerEdge R320. Processors’ prices are unknown, although based on R320 order customization page, the E5-1410 is priced somewhere in the middle between E5-2407 and E5-2420, and Pentium 1407 should be priced close to Xeon E5-2403.
