iOS Exploits Published By Wikileaks

You may have noticed Wikileaks are in the news yet again, with more juicy documents about the CIA and their unhealthy obsession with monitoring people, illegally. However, Apple has since confirmed that the iOS exploits published by Wikileaks had already been fixed in the last iOS update.

In the 8000+ documents released by Wikileaks, were details of how they were hacking, and the types of devices that were violated through back doors. No surprise that iPhone and Android were targeted, being the two companies with the largest share of that particular market. It starts to make you wonder if switching to another operating system might actually be more secure.

To give Apple some credit, they’ve been quick to announce they already had it covered in the last update, and are working to fix any they may have missed as soon as possible. This leak has rendered any of those hacking tools useless, although it does not matter so much if they are already using different exploits, they just won’t be happy that this news is now out in public.

Amongst the other devices that had been essentially bugged, were Samsung TV’s, and again with them being very popular, that makes perfect sense. Without going through the 8000+ documents, I couldn’t tell you if any other TV brand was affected.

As of yet, there has been no word on the Android front, but I think it is safe to assume that they have also already fixed most of the exploits and will be hard at work fixing the rest as we speak. The legitimacy of the leak was questioned early on, but with Apple confirming some of the exploits have already been addressed, it’s very safe to assume that these documents are the real deal.

The battle between tech companies and the US authorities continues to rumble on, and with the lack of remorse or respect being shown to people by the CIA, we can be a little thankful the tech companies have our backs.

Do you think there is any way of putting an end to this aggressive hacking by the CIA or is it something we have to live with?
