Ivy Bridge 3770K gets overclocked to 7GHz

Intel’s Core i7 3770K processor is turning out to be a brilliant overclocker. Reaching a huge 6.96GHz on liquid nitrogen across all four cores the processor managed to beat the previous Super Pi 1 million record held by the Core i7 980X at 6.93GHz.  The feat is impressive given the fact all cores were enabled, even if hyper threading was not. The Super Pi 1 million result of 5.187 seconds was significantly faster than the 980X’s World Record at 5.781 seconds. When put through Super Pi 32 million the chip had to be clocked slightly lower at 6.65GHz but it still took only 5 minutes and 2.843 seconds. PiFast was done at a 6.805GHz clock speed and churned out a 10.56 second time.

The test rig consisted of an engineering sample i7 3770K processor cooled by LN2 with an ASUS ROG Maximus V Gene Z77 motherboard and 4GB of DDR3 at 2652MHz and 7-11-7-28-1T. You can see the tabulated results below:
