Justice League Trailer Brings DC’s Greatest Heroes Together

Following the mixed reception of last year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Warner Bros is going all in on its new DC superhero menagerie, Justice League. Effectively positioned as the DC rival to Marvel’s cinematic behemoth The Avengers, the makers of the Justice League – directed by Batman v Superman helmer Zack Snyder – will be hoping that this potential blockbuster can hit the same heights the two Avengers movies, albeit without putting in the years of legwork beforehand.

Justice League sees Ben Affleck’s Batman recruit Aquaman (Game of Thrones’ Jason Momoa), The Flash (Ezra Miller), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), and Wonder Woman (Gal Godot) to form a new superteam to battle Steppenwolf (the supervillain, not the band):

Tonally, Justice League is expected to shift away from the dourness of Batman v Superman – which seems to have been erroneously blamed for its critical mauling – and the trailer seems desperate to draw attention to the existence of jokes in the film. According to Snyder, the movie’s tone stems naturally from its conceit, which is very different from its predecessor.

Snyder told Screen Rant earlier this year:

“I would say that to me it’s like, again, this evolution – Batman v Superman I think to me was inherently like, okay, even from conception, from the beginning, when we were first like, “Oh, let’s get Batman in the movie!” – and I’ve told you guys, we talked about why, how we got Batman in the movie, the whole story of “Who’s he gonna fight?” You know, we fought Zod; that’s pretty much an alien. Who does he fight next? What do you do? And we were in that – I was with Chris Nolan, and we were just talking about this idea that, I think the first idea we had was like, “Oh, you know, we’ll just show Kryptonite being delivered to Bruce Wayne’s house at the end of the movie.” I thought, “Oh, that’s kinda cool. Huh…” And then I think from there we progressed on to this idea of like, “Oh, let’s get -” like once we said in the room “Let’s get Batman. What if he fought Batman?” then it’s hard to go back. You can’t take that away. You can’t go, “Oh, you know who else is cool to fight? This guy.” Once you say “Batman” out loud, it’s gonna be Batman.”

Justice League hits cinemas on 17th November, 2017.
