When GlobalFoundries could not deliver the parts before the end of the year, AMD has to cancel its plans for Krishna and Wichita and instead shift its plans to a new Kaveri 28nm APU.

The cores of the Kaveri are reported to be Steamroller-based, the same cores that come after the Pilediver Bulldozer cores that will also find its way into the Trinity APU.

As for release, well, sources say that the Kaveri 28nm APU and both desktop and notebook versions will be launched at CES 2013. This time around, GlobalFoundries should be able to make the new 28nm processors on time.

As for its place in AMD’s lineup, it is set to replace the 32nm Trinity in the A10, A8, A6 and A4 market segment. Kaveri will be a dual to quad core based processor with very good DirectX 11 graphics and support for DDR 2133 memory and socket FS2L for desktop.
