A Closer Look

There isn’t much to show on the front, it does feature an LED there, but that’s it. On the rear, it gets a little more interesting We first see the 5V DC plug for the power adapter followed by the USB 3.0 Type B host upstream port.

In the middle, we see the DVI port as well as the DisplayPort and HDMI connectors. You can only use either the DisplayPort or HDMI at one time. There is a little slider in front of those two connectors, allowing you to only expose the one you’ll want to use.

Continuing to the right, we see the RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet port followed by the 2.1A USB 3.0 Type A charging port.

One one side of the SD4000 you’ll find another two USB 3.0 ports without the extra charging capabilities.

Finally on the second side we find the headphone and microphone connectors as well as the Kensington lock to make sure that no one runs away with it.

The SD4000 Universal Docking station has four small rubber feet on the bottom that make sure that it stays where you place it. This is also where you find the sticker with the product and serial numbers as well as certifications and power information.

Opening up the SD4000 and we find a pretty simple setup with everything on a single PCB.

The two visible chips used are the Realtek RTL8211E network controller and the VLI VL812-Q7 4-port USB 3.0 host controller.
