Kingston Fury Gen5 8TB M.2 SSD Review

3DMark Storage

This drive was never going to be slow, unless there was something particularly wrong with it; spoiler, it ran excellently. Scoring nearly 6000 in Storage Benchmark, it demonstrated very low access times and excellent bandwidth for daily gaming tasks.

AJA

For capturing 5K uncompressed video in 10-bit, the drive excels here too, easily fast enough to handle multiple streams reading and writin,g thanks to its excellent throughput.

Anvil Storage Utilities

In Anvil, it scored a massive 31,190 points, easily one of the highest scores we’ve had to date, with massive IOPS on both read and write, with consistantly low response times throughout.

AS SSD Compression

This is easily one of the best AS SSD compression test results I’ve seen, with near-perfect read and write consistency with different levels of compressible data, all easily handled.

AS SSD Copy

AS SSD showed that ISO, Program and Game speeds were incredibly fast, and while not the max read speed of the drive, it’s simply because the task completed so quickly, the drive didn’t need to get up to full speed to complete the tasks in well under a second each.

AS SSD Benchmark

Sequential read and writes are both around 10,000 MB/s, super fast, with low access times, and a very high score overall.

ATTO Disk Benchmark

The drive gets up to full speed pretty darn fast, too, with blocks of 128KB to 512KB hitting around 12.5 GB/s, but flat out from 1MB blocks and upwards, with no degradation in performance beyond that.

CrystalDiskMark IOPS

CrystalDiskMark really let this drive stretch its legs, scoring massive IOPS of over 270000 read and nearly 250000 writes, which is fantastic for those data-heavy workloads.

CrystalDiskMark

When it comes to read and write speeds, it did not disappoint, with 12400 MB/s read and 13600 MB/s write, not quite the max this drive can do, but it’s pretty darn close. We’re actually around the point where some new tests are needed, as the drives are so fast, it can be hard to demonstrate their full speed in a short benchmark run.

DiskBench 64MB Small Files

Moving 64MB of data as 327 files looks just 392ms, basically instant, which is great for those dealing with lots of small files, such as daily OS functions.

DiskBench 50GB Large Files

When it comes to larger files, again, we see huge performance, with 50GB moved in just 32 seconds.

Final Fantasy XIV

This drive will crush any game you throw at it, with every scene loading in just a second or two, resulting in an Extremely High score from the Final Fantasy XIV benchmark.

Temperatures

What’s most incredible, beyond the high speeds, is the extremely low temperatures. With its efficient components, it never exceeded 57c, which is by far one of the lowest temperatures we’ve seen from a drive this fast; thermal throttling shouldn’t be an issue.
